Who can
volunteer? - Organizations, businesses, clubs,
groups, families, singles, or couples can volunteer. You can even take your pet (if they are well behaved.) Once a month during the
distribution, normally the third week of the month, you pickup food from the warehouse and deliver it to your assigned participant(s).
A Volunteer Celebration Picnic is held every year to recognize and thank the volunteers. Volunteers and families are invited.
Groups and Individuals can volunteer for warehouse workdays - to bag food, clean and organize the warehouse.
Volunteers - what you need to know!
- Fill out the volunteer application form - this lets us know what
areas you are interested in volunteering for.
- Once we receive the application, you will be assigned two+ participants (in close proximity) and we will provide a short bio on each participant.
- You will receive a schedule for the year with all food pickup dates on it.
- Look up your route using www.mapquest.com from
your computer. The warehouse can be used as your
starting point (3720-A Alliance Drive, Greensboro, NC 27407), and your participant's address
the destination.
- Call your participants and introduce yourself as being with Food Assistance "Groceries on Wheels" program. Let them know when you will make your delivery
(date and time). Call them the morning of delivery just to remind them you are on your way.
- We send you a reminder each month two weeks before delivery dates for food pickup.
- We ask that you please spend a little time with your participant(s).
They really enjoy the company each month and look forward to
your visit.
